Creating and Ensuring a Relevant Parks and Recreation Agency

The challenges of today are multi-faceted and can range from social ills to business models. Do we attempt to solve them all or identify what problems our agencies effectively address? What is most important is to understand how to be relevant, thus making sports and recreation agencies a critical success factor to the success of a community. Along the way identification and development of critical advocates to ensure your success is needed. This session will address how to evaluate where you are, identify critical advocates and implement a plan for relevance.
Learning Outcomes:
Participants will be able to define relevancy as related to their own agency and department.
Participants will identify and understand the process of implementing change in regards to relevance across an organization.
Participants will have the ability to develop a program for relevance within their agency, division and/or unit.

Moving from a Municipal to an Enterprise Mindset

An enterprise mindset starts with developing staff to have the ability to think and believe in the financial aspects of their agency or department. Having an enterprise approach requires that the professional have sound business principals with the intention of creating profits, which can be revenue and/or social benefit. This session will detail the development of staff and an agency that understands and embraces the financial aspects of their agency.
Learning Outcomes:
Participants will gain and apply an understanding of the enterprise approach towards parks and recreation.
Participants will develop a plan on how to make an agency enable an enterprise approach.
Participants will instill an ethic of being bold innovative decision makers.
